The City of Largo issues the permit

Largo runs its own building department. It sits in the middle of a densely incorporated county with Clearwater to the north, Pinellas Park to the east, Seminole to the south-west and unincorporated county pockets between them, and the boundaries are close together and irregular. A Largo mailing address does not settle which department your permit goes to, so we confirm it from the parcel record before quoting.

Manufactured homes follow a different code, and Largo has many

This needs establishing before anyone measures. A manufactured or mobile home is built to the federal HUD code rather than to the Florida Building Code, and window and door replacement on one follows the manufacturer's specification and the HUD standard rather than the Florida Product Approval route that governs site-built houses. Impact units made for site-built openings are frequently not the correct product for a manufactured home, and fitting them is neither compliant nor structurally sensible — the wall assembly is lighter and the anchor condition is nothing like masonry. Largo has a considerable number of manufactured home communities, so we ask which you have at the first conversation rather than at the measurement.

Sheltered from both coasts

Largo sits inland of both the Gulf beaches and Tampa Bay, with development on every side. Calculated design pressures here run below what the same opening would face on Clearwater Beach or a St. Petersburg waterfront elevation, which widens the compliant product range and lowers what the same protection costs. Salt is still present in the air across the peninsula, so corrosion-resistant fixings remain a sensible specification even where the pressure figures are unremarkable.

Statewide approval, and the credit

Pinellas is outside the High Velocity Hurricane Zone, so site-built work here qualifies under statewide Florida Product Approval rather than a Miami-Dade NOA. On the insurance side the mechanism is the same as everywhere in the state: after the permit closes, a licensed inspector completes the OIR-B1-1802 wind mitigation form, and the opening protection section is scored across your whole building envelope. Every glazed opening has to be protected to reach the full credit, which is why a partial job rates lower than the same money spent finishing the envelope.

Doors on a Largo elevation

Inland Pinellas pressures mean both sliders and French doors qualify comfortably on most openings, so the choice comes down to how you use the doorway rather than to what the structure will allow — which is not true on the barrier islands. That makes Largo one of the places where a homeowner genuinely gets to choose on daylight, furniture and how the room works. Entry doors with glass are still glazed openings and still need approved product and a permit. Marine-grade hardware is available and is genuinely optional at this distance from salt water.
